小学校の卒業式の話．
当然国歌斉唱がある．
しかし，国歌を歌う者がほとんどいなかった．
私は，音楽で "君が代" を習わないので知らなかったし[1]，自宅でも教わることがなかったため，歌えなかった．
おそらく，私の同級生たちも同じようなものであろう．
周囲の雰囲気に流されて歌えないというのもあった．
その場では歌うことが異端であった．
さらに，国家の音楽が流れている間，椅子に座る者すらいた（記憶が定かではないが）．
「自由にすれば良い」などと教師は言っていたように思う（記憶が定かではないが）．
そんな状況で一人，国歌を歌う者がいた．
その者は，悪い奴ではないが，やや素行が乱暴な者だった．
この乱暴者の意外な行動に対し，その当時の私は特に何の感慨もなかった．
しかし，今になって思う．「案外まともだね」．

In spite of such a situation, there was one brave student who sang the national anthem.
He wasn't a bad guy, but was a little wild.
At that time, I was not particularly impressed by the surprising behavior of the (a little) violent boy.
